Mansfield Lunar Theatre

Lunar Theatre Backcountry Shoot on Mt. Mansfield

Sam and I hatched a plan a few months before after completing a similar photoshoot on Camel’s Hump from Bald Hill. I’ve used “The Photographer’s Ephemeris” for several years and saw that the moon would align with the Chin & Adam’s Apple on Mt. Mansfield on April 8. I called our friend Ben who is an engineer, and he confirmed the trigonometry of the celestial event. Our math had us stationed at the Adam’s Apple at 5:15 in the morning. I was on the summit at 5am, which required a 230am wake up call. We rallied that morning with a group of 6. Lunar Th

Dog Paws 10k

A top runner with her dog in the Vail Games 2017

I arrived at the Vail GoPro Mountain Games with an aspiration to photograph some of the games events with a nature art twist. Using water from my water-bottle and a few nearby rocks, I crafted a few paw prints by the race trail and waited for racers to go by. The congruency of which the runner appeared in the frame and the vision I had in my mind left me feeling fulfilled with my planning!

Bones & Bikes

Bikes & Bones

In collaborating with local artist, Matt Aucoin and adventure artist Emma Hileman, we created a scene that reflects the connection between the building blocks of the bicycle and the body of living forms. Matt and I spent three hours painting Emma’s body at the Mint in Rutland, VT before we voyaged over the mountain to Rochester to ride the trails just down the road from the National Forest building.

Rock Art Bike Mosaic

Resting on the shores of the White River in South Royalton, VT lay an ephemeral work of art with collected stones.

I accepted a long term sub position at South Royalton Elementary - an hour’s drive from my home in Middlebury. I concocted a plan to camp at an organic farmstead Monday - Thursday each week and return on the weekends. During my stay each week I began to explore the local natural resources and found a small town beach close to the center of town I would frequent either in the morning or afternoon. I had started my journey to become an elementary art teach and my fascination with the natural world became increasingly important to explore and discover. After 3 hours of harvesting rocks and organizing them in oatmeal boxes, I spent an afternoon by the beach on May 8th laying them out in a 16 x 20” sand canvas. Ironically I received a message on social media from a contact from the adventure community who was on a bike ride and had stopped by the river. How he came to figure out the mosaic was created by me? No idea.

Giant Pumpkin Paddling

Dane paddles in a hollowed out 600lb pumpkin through the Otter Creek Gorge in New Haven, VT.

Giant Pumpkin Paddling

Ethan Nelson grew a 600+lb pumpkin. Actually he grew a 1,000lb pumpkin and shared his smaller one with me, lent me his trailer and with half a dozen rallied friends, one who I met in the woods that day, lifted the pumpkin 200m on a tire from the woods into the water. I had ‘met’ Dane a few months before, after another photographer tipped me off that Dane and a few friends were going to drop the waterfall in Middlebury when the rainbow lights lit up the falls. Dane paddled about a kilometer through class II rapids in the Otter Creek Gorge in New Haven, VT.
